Children and Youth

On Sunday’s our whole church family worship together for the first part of the service, and then at around 11:00am split into groups to learn more about God in an age-appropriate manner.

L-zone is our Sunday morning group for primary aged children. Each week we explore bible stories through games, discussion, crafts, singing and more. This term L-zone are doing a “Once Upon a Time” series, exploring the big picture narrative running throughout the bible and learning about God’s big rescue plan.

L-zone runs throughout term-time, except from the first Sunday of every month when the whole church family remains together for an all-age service.

T-Zone is our Sunday morning group for Year 7’s and over. We first worship alongside the rest of the church from 10:30am, then head upstairs around 11:00.

We play games, explore the Bible, discuss how it relates to our daily lives, and pray together. In T-zone we encourage honest sharing wherever the young people are at in their faith-journey and invite them to think, ask questions and discover Jesus for themselves.

T-zone runs throughout term-time, except from the first Sunday of every month when the whole church family remains together for an all-age service.

Connect is our life group for year 9s or older. We meet every Friday night to deepen friendships and develop spiritually, whilst eating a lot of snacks! Our sessions alternate between socials, normally playing some games, and bible studies. At the moment in our bible studies we’re working our way through Mark’s gospel.

Once a month we have Friday Night Youth

A church service specifically aimed to anyone and everyone who goes to secondary school.

We have a DJ, team games, we have worship and word.

We have a lot of fun.

Our doors open at 7pm and we finish at 8.30pm.

Thursday club is a kids club for children who go to primary school.

We meet every Thursday during term time, from 4.30–6.00pm.

Thursday Club is an hour and a half of table tennis, crafts, football and lots of fun.

We have a fully stocked tuck shop as well.

Junior Church takes place every Sunday from 11am-12pm. It is broken into five age groups. Each age group is given interactive, fun activities relevant for their age, with all teaching based around the same central theme or story.

The children’s work at LifeSpring Church aims to encourage children in their relationship with God, Jesus and Holy Spirit.

All our volunteers are DBS checked.

Inspired is our 11-16 year old group, run on Sundays from 11 am until 12pm.

These happen every Sunday apart from the last Sunday of the month.

The sessions are fun and interactive and aim to lead the young people into deeper relationships with God.

The groups comprise of individuals who are at many different stages in their faith journey and encourage honest sharing and discussion.

All our volunteers are DBS checked.

A club for youth who go to secondary school, we meet every Friday during term time, from 6.00–7.30pm.

Friday Club is an hour and a half of karaoke, PlayStation, make-up, bench ball, football, games and fun for everyone.

We have a fully stocked tuck shop as well.

Friday, 6-7 pm at The Thames Room, Carey Baptist Church
Every week we have a Bible talk. We also play exciting games and organise craft activities including painting and cooking.

YPj is a club for 7 – 10 year olds that has a programme of fun and exciting activities, sports and games. Everything is planned to show, from the Bible, what it means to follow Jesus.

We meet every Friday (term time only) 5:55 – 6:55pm for children in school years 2 to 5.  Every evening is different and so we’re sure you’ll find something you’ll enjoy so much you’ll want to come back week after week!

YP is a group for school years 6-8.

Sunday School Beginners –  For children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1. We have lots of fun finding out about a story from the Bible, singing, praying, learning memory verses and doing a craft activity. We also share news and play games and play games or toys. We use a mix of CLICK and the Jesus Story Book Bible Sunday School materials. We’re based in the Kennet Room in the church.

For children aged between 6 and 10 years (school years 2 – 5). We sing, learn verses from the Bible, pray, listen to a Bible story and sometimes have quizzes. We do an activity sheet based on our story and then we get to play some games as we wait to be picked up by our parents. Sometimes we have coffee and cake afterwards for our parents to chat to each other and the teachers. Our teachers use the GO Teach material for our talks.

For children in school year 6 – 8. We like to chat and discuss things. We learn what it is to be a Christian and how to follow Jesus at school and at home. Towards the end of the year we get ready for joining the morning services and our leaders help us do this. We learn what a church is for and what happens in a service. We get help learning to listen to sermons and then we join the morning service, normally at the end of school year 8.

Xtra is for young people in Years 9 to 13. We meet after most – but not all – Sunday evening services. Currently we meet in the Carey Centre, starting at 7:30ish and finishing at 9ish. We spend time talking and eating, and we typically chew over the sermons we’ve heard during the day or topical subjects.

Bible Study and discussion about topical issues that affect the youth of today.

The Salvation Army Rainbow Unit is for girls aged 5 to 7 years and meets on a Wednesday during term time from 5 - 6pm.

Rainbows take part in indoor and outdoor events and their meetings are full of games, crafts and activities that provide challenging opportunities for Rainbows to think for themselves. Everything a Rainbow does help her to develop. Being a Rainbow is an opportunity to Look, Learn, Love and Laugh.

The Brownie pack is for girls aged 7 to 10 years and meets on a Wednesdays during term time from 6:00 − 7:30 pm.

Brownies take part in indoor, sometimes outdoor events and Brownie Holidays or Camps. Their meetings are full of games, crafts and activities that provide challenging opportunities. Brownies work together in small groups, are encouraged in self-government and decision making, have a balanced and varied programme, care for the individual and sharing a commitment to a common standard.

Our aim at St Matthews Church is to make sure every child can be themselves in a safe and welcoming environment. Our children's workers are appointed through interview only, are DBS checked and have first aid and safeguarding training.
We want the kids to have great fun whilst learning more about Jesus and meeting with Him.

At Limitless Kids Reading, we want the children and young people to know their identity in Christ and their place in the Kingdom of God. Our aim is to help release them into their spiritual giftings, build strong friendships and guide them in developing a deeper relationship with God.

All children that attend our groups must be registered.

If you are aged 11-18 then you are more than welcome to join our weekly youth gathering on Friday nights between 7pm-8.30pm. Our aim in these sessions is to create a sense of community and belonging to young people through social interaction, preaching & teaching accompanied with lots of games and activities and a great time.

All youth that attend our groups must be registered.

Our Sunday groups meet during the service after worship for teaching, split into two groups for ages 11-13s and 14-15s. These sessions are aimed to equip our youth with the practical and biblical knowledge in a safe space where they can relate to their peers, ask questions and receive spiritual guidance from our youth team.

Our older 16-18 age group is specifically catered to our youth that are in a transitional period into adulthood. We know that this age can be full of changes and through this group we like to provide as much help and encouragement through bible studies, talks and discussions once/twice a month on a Sunday morning. This group also meet-up with our youth team every second Friday on the month were we openly discuss life and the Bible.

All youth that attend our groups must be registered.

Sunday Club (3-10/11)
After a time of singing, prayer and sharing, we split into smaller groups and learn from God’s Word, the Bible. We make learning fun, with activities, quizzes, games and craft.

Break-In (10/11-16)
After being in the morning service, we either break up into our own group for a Bible time, or stay in the service, where we learn how to benefit from the weekly sermon in our daily lives.

All our childrens’ workers are CRB checked.

We have been operating since 2005 and provide:

• Breakfast and After-School Club during term time,
• Holiday Club during school holidays
• Transport to and from approximately 15 schools

Our aim is to unleash the full potential of black and ethnic minority students and those from socially deprived or isolated backgrounds through effective coaching and mentoring.

A place where youths between the ages of 5 and 24 can come and enjoy a relaxed and nonthreatening environment while being challenged and helped to better themselves in many different aspects of their lives.

We have a number of programs running that our young people can choose to take part in from week to week

All our 0 -11 year olds are invited to join their RFC Kids groups on a Sunday morning. Children join their groups after 20 mins of gathering with the whole church for sung worship. After they have been registered with our team, there will enjoy time to connect, play games, sing and look at Bible stories.

Please note, Comets (our group for children with additional needs) will run only at our 11:30am meeting.

Our Sunday youth session is for young people in school years 7-11. Young people join their groups after the sung worship with the whole church. There will be time to connect, chat and look at the bible together.

We currently meet every Friday during term time at the church offices at 7.30pm – 9.30pm. During these sessions we have a time of worship, play games, a short talk and time to discuss how to best follow Jesus in our everyday lives.

Sundays 10:45-12:00.

Kids Church is for Kids under 11 Years Old. Under 5 parents have to attend with Child over 5.

It is a drop off session.

This Event runs as part out our Morning service at our St Agnes Site.

A Consent for is needed for your Child to attend this Event.

Monday Evenings 4.00-5.00pm

A safe space for kids aged 5-11 to belong, build friendships and have fun.

This is a drop off session with activities include large games, craft, faith thought for the week and so much more!! These sessions will run in school term only.

All children need to have a completed consent form before attending session.

All our team are DBS Checked and Safeguarding Trained.

We are a group for secondary-aged young people that meet on Sundays during church, and for regular socials and community projects.

On Sundays we meet in the church lounge and relax over drinks, cookies and other suitable refreshments. We love to chat and explore issues about our Christian faith. Recently we’ve introduced the cake debate.

If you are in school years 7 to 13 you’re very welcome to join us.

Our midweek group for primary school age children meets on Thursday Evenings 6pm-7pm during school term time.

Love Thursdays is the place to be on a Thursday night! This open youth group is for 11-18s from all over Earley and Lower Earley.

It is run by churches working together and we currently meet 7:30-9pm at Brookside Church (RG6 7HG).

We run a Youth Night every other week, 1st/3rd/5th Sundays, from 7-8:30pm.

These socials are all about chilling with your mates in a safe place. We run optional tournaments in all kinds of games and sports and other random activities! This space is for you to come and just be yourself. Our leaders are here for you!

Join a Cell group family and get closer to God and each other each week at 7pm – 9pm.

Term time:
The first Sunday of each month the children will stay in church with their families/carers as we worship all together. We will provide activity packs for the children to help them engage with the service.

For the remaining Sundays of each month, there will be Kids groups. No need to book, just turn up, we would love to see you!

On Sundays we gather at the 9:30am service, but what we do each week is a little different. Our heart is for young people to be a core part of the church community so we often do church together, reflect on what we’ve experienced and join teams where we can serve… plus the monthly McDonald’s trip! 🍔

BYTE (Big Youth Thursday Evenings) meets every Thursday during term time for games, activities, food and more, followed by a time of worship, prayer and a talk where we get to explore faith together.

We meet at Greyfriars Church from 7-9pm. Please use the Greyfriars Nursery Car Park entrance found on Sackville Street rather than the front door.

We have a 6^th Form Group who meet during BYTE at Greyfriars. You can come from 7pm for games, activities and craft with the rest of the youth and then head into the 6^th Form group at 7.45pm in the Atrium, or arrive at 7.45pm and join the group then for Bible chats and prayer.

Every Sunday morning we provide kids church programme which includes worship, bible stories, crafts, team games and creative prayer for children aged 5 – 11. We believe the children are part of the church and encourage them in using their gifts and talents.

This work involves supporting young people in the areas of emotional well-being – with a mixture of team building activities and short discussions from a Christian perspective .

Providing 1 to 1 mentoring for young people who are struggling with education at school. The sessions aim to help young people improve in their learning, to build self-esteem and to give them confidence in relation to their well-being. The sessions focus also on helping the young person to make positive choices for their lives. These meetings take place weekly.

Youth Group every half term at local coffee shop – on a Friday after school.

SYNC is an event for youth in secondary school years 7-11.

SYNC was started in February 2017 to create a place for young people where they can connect to each other, connect to great role models and connect to the Christian faith.

It runs every other Friday during term time and it offers three different rooms catering to different young people.

3.30 to 5 pm. Term time only

This is our church-led children's group for Primary aged children. We meet in the new hall at Emmanuel where there is space for children to play games, do crafts and colouring and to unwind and have a chat. When the weather is nice we open the garden for outdoor activities including football. Parents need to stay with their child throughout the session. We have space for parents to sit, have a drink and catch up with one another.

Children start off in the main hall with the adults for the 10:30 service then go out to Light groups during the service. The last Sunday of each month is an All Age service and the children stay in the main hall with their family.

There is no need to book but please register your child HERE . Children need to be re-registered every September.

There are two discipleship groups that meet on a Sunday. These focus on developing young people's faith. They include time to chat, read the Bible and pray together.

SYNERGY: Sunday morning, during the Church service. School years 6-9.

THIRST: Sunday evening, 7.00-8.30pm. School years 10-13.

On a Friday our Youth Pastor Laurie-Ann helps lead the Christian Union at Bulmershe School. This group runs for pupils at the school in years 7-13. We meet after school on a Friday until 4pm. This is a great opportunity for Christians in the school to come together, pray over the school and look more at God's word. This all happens alongside some games and cake!

Once a month from 6.30-9.00pm we meet together to eat dinner, share stories and hang out. The evening starts by sitting down and eating together. At this time we have our 'First Thought', where we have some conversations around a faith based topic. We then open up the space for the young people to hang out. There is table football, air hockey, game consoles, card games and more.

Beavers and Cubs provide fun scouting activities such as crafts, cooking, camping and outings for children from the Caversham area aged 6-10 ½ years. The group is sponsored by St. John’s Church and is open to all.

St John’s Sunday Club runs alongside our 9.30am church service and offers a place for children of all ages to learn more about God in a fun, age-appropriate way.

Sunday Club meets each Sunday during term time, except 2nd Sundays of every month when we have our all-age service for everyone in church.

The children usually head out for Sunday School after about 20 minutes of being in the main service.

Sunday School is split into two groups (3-5s / 6-11s). We usually have a few songs, a Bible lesson and some fun activities or crafts. We are currently using the “Click” material for our lessons, which we have found to be very engaging.

During our 10:15am service on the first Sunday of each month we will have food together alongside a game and a time of prayer.

These are always popular with the children and young people.

KIDS CHURCH is for children aged 3 to those in School Year 9. We spend some of the morning in aged related groups so we can better help the children explore faith in Jesus. We meet in the back hall and the church lounge (downstairs). They go into church for 10-15 minutes before going out to their group.

On the first Sunday of each month they meet upstairs in ‘The Venue’ for a brunch during the 10:15 service. We spend some of this time praying together, alongside food and games.

Hot Spot is for youth in school years 7 and above.  Their time is spent having fun and building friendships whilst exploring their own faith and being encouraged to ask questions and seek the answers.

During the school Term we meet on Thursday Evenings from 7:30-9pm in our Youth Room ‘The Venue’.  We have a social every three weeks and have a Bible focussed time during the other weeks.

Our local community Friday night SHOUT group is for all children in school years 3 to 6. Shout runs from 18:30 to 19:30 during term-time. It’s a great opportunity for fun and a mix of games, sports and crafts, with a half-time talk or discussion. There’s plenty of space for lots of activities or to just chill out!

A registration form needs to be completed and signed on your first visit by a parent or guardian.

Explorers is for children aged 7-11 on Fridays during term time, 6:00 – 7:00pm. It is an action packed hour including:

Crafts, Bible Talks, Games, Prizes, Songs

6.30pm-8.00pm

Our Sunday Night yoUth Group for ages 11-18s meets fortnightly during term time. We combine an opportunity for fun, social activities (often involving food!) with Bible study and the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the Christian faith and life.

9th Tilehurst (Methodist) Guides meet on Tuesdays in term-time. We currently have a full unit of 36 girls (we can’t fit any more in the hall!) and we have a waiting list. If you’d like to join us, please visit the Girlguiding web site to register your daughter.

WOW is a fortnightly, after school Club at Tilehurst Methodist Church for children in Reception - Year 4.

Join us for the opportunity to learn more about God and the Bible in fun and exciting ways including creative craft and great games. The Club is free. We meet on Wednesday afternoons fortnightly (see dates below) 4.30pm-5.45pm.

God's Awesome People, or The G.A.P, is a group for 8-11 year olds fortnightly on Friday nights 6.30-8.00pm.

Including games, craft, Bible teaching, chill time and snacks.

Pick ‘n’ Mix is our Youth Group is for 11+’s at secondary school. It meets fortnightly during term time, on Fridays, 7:45-9:15pm, in St Catherine’s Hall.  There are often special events on other days.

Our Sunday Club meets during the Sunday Morning service on the last Sunday of the month.

We sing songs, play games and run around, learn bible stories and do crafts.

The SALT (Sharing And Learning Together) groups meet each Sunday morning following a period of all age worship in the church.

The groups are known as Sparklers for ages 3–4, All-stars for ages 5–7, Trail-blazers for ages 7-11, Lasers for ages 11-14 and Infra-Reds for 14-18.

All children and young people are warmly welcome to join us any Sunday morning for a range of exciting activities and the chance to make new friends. All of our SALT group leaders are all ‘DBS checked’ and receive regular training in Good Practice.

The 1^st Eastgate Rainbow Guides meet every Thursday during term time from 5:00 pm until 6:00pm.

Rainbows enjoy a range of activities and games each week.

Beaver Scouts are boys and girls aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family.

Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others. They usually meet together once a week in a Beaver Scout Colony.

At Park United Reformed Church the 73rd Reading (Park) Beavers meet on Mondays during school term time, from 5.15 – 6.30pm in David’s Hall.

The 30th Reading (Park) Guides meet at Park United Reformed Church on Thursday evenings during school term time.

Guides is open to girls aged 10-14 and we have an active and varied weekly programme, with a team of wonderful leaders. We go on holidays, we attended ‘WINGS 2009’ an international jamboree with Guides and Scouts from all round the world. We likeguides to think we are quite a sporty lot, and enjoy playing rounders and football in Palmer Park, going bowling and swimming.

Park United Reformed Church is home for 73rd Reading (Park) Scout Troop, we meet most Thursdays during school term time from 7.30pm until 9.30pm.

Scouting is for young people aged between 10½ and 14 years who want to make friends and develop their widening interests in ways that are both educational and fun – young people who want a break from the usual after-school routine of homework, games and watching television.

Explorer Scouts (for those aged 14-18) meet at Park URC on Thursday evenings, run by our Explorer Scout Leaders: Robin Beeson and Stewart Mills.

‘To anyone who hasn’t tried Scouting before, I’d say come on up and have a go! I think that most people don’t really know that Scouting is about activities, friendship and meeting people from other countries. I’ve been in the Movement since I was a Beaver and I still love it!’
